My name is Youssouf Ballay Megot, also known as Bearphotographer, a photographer based in Brazzaville and available in Pointe-Noire, Republic of the Congo.
Photography entered my life long before I made it my profession. As a child, I watched my mother capture our family's moments with her camera. Without knowing it, she passed on to me a taste for memory, for images and for the stories we keep.
Today I work as an independent photographer with a human-centred approach. My work moves between portraiture, documentary and commissioned photography. What interests me above all are people — their journeys, their emotions and the stories that shape them.
Through my images, I seek to create sincere, timeless photographs. I favour true moments over excessive posing, emotion over artifice, and stories over mere appearances. Every session, every reportage and every encounter is, for me, an opportunity to document a part of our shared humanity.
My eye is nourished by my travels, my encounters and the work of the many African photographers who help tell the story of our continent with nuance and authenticity. I deeply believe that images have the power to preserve memory, to create connection and to change the way we see the world.
Beyond photography, I am driven by a simple conviction: telling our own stories matters. Through my work, I want to help bring to light the faces, cultures, talents and realities that make up contemporary Africa.
